It’s November and the holidays are upon us again. As we wrap up another season, it’s time to look back at the club’s year. From a financial perspective, your club is performing better than planned for the year. Our membership, golf operations and food/beverage revenues have all seen significant gains. If you compare where we are now versus where we were in 2008 (pre-recession), our overall membership is up about 15%.

While this is good news for the club, it is important to recognize that we are still down almost forty-five golf members during this time. We have been able to maintain financially over the years due to an influx of younger members, boat slips and increased food/beverage. Another important factor has been that we are a family-friendly club, with great programming for golf, racquet sports, sailing, skating, cross-country skiing and swimming, all led by professional instructors. This, plus the addition of kid’s camps, Kid’s Night Out and Family Fun Nights, all provide a major source of value for the club and have helped the club to thrive.

Over this past year we have spent about $150,000 on various projects around the club from money generated by our capital fund.  Here is a list of the main projects:

  • Significant maintenance & improvements to golf course
  • Resurfacing of the tennis courts
  • New Yacht club dock & slip systems
  • Additional kitchen equipment

For 2014, your board of directors has approved plans to enhance the Quarterdeck dining and locker rooms. We will also be putting a small addition onto the Lakeview bar to help efficiencies within that space. If you’d like to know more, we welcome you to attend the annual meeting on Thursday, December 5th. This is a good opportunity to learn more about your club and hear about future projects in and around this great facility!

Looking forward, the holidays are here, which means that we have some great events coming up. Among these are the Children’s Christmas Party, the Member Christmas Party and Holiday Brunches. Of course, if you’d like to host a holiday event of your own, GLCC would be happy to help. Contact Mike to book the club for anything from a family luncheon to a full-out party! We will also have catering menus available for all of your entertaining needs so look out for those as well!

For those who may be interested, the new year brings opportunities to join the club committees that aid in our planning structure. If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please call or email Mike. Committees will be taking shape during the month of January and we hope you can be a part of them!

We are currently in the process of finalizing our budget and plans for the coming year. Additionally, you may be happy to hear that we are building our 2014 Calendars and have new events in the works, as well as the return of GLCC favorites. Members should also be aware of our Fall Membership Drive, as we are always looking to add to the GLCC community! If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining, please contact Mike Rossen or Chelsea LaFleur for more information.

As the year comes to a close, we would like to thank all of our committees and board members for giving their time and energy to help us stay on track and moving forward. It was their dedication that helped to make this year such a fun and successful one. We look forward to seeing everyone over the holiday season!
