GOLF

Wow, what a summer for golf! It has been fantastic seeing all of the new and the old faces showing up to the golf course on a regular basis! I would like to thank all of the members for increased participation in events across the board. The golf committee did a fantastic job of creating these events again this year.

Congratulations to Dan Lynk, Justin Carter, Bill Sibert and Mike Turley for winning the Stars & Stripes 4th of July Tournament. The Men’s Member-Member was another exciting event coming down to the wire and coming out on top were the Vandermeeden brothers, Evan and Clay. What a great shootout that was.

The fiesta-themed Women’s Member Guest Tournament was fantastic yet again! Debbie Scott & her partner, Ann Marie Roschek put on quite the performance to win this year. Congratulations ladies! In our second-to-last Twilight Golf of the year, the Strickers and Coffingers outlasted the rain to win the event in impressive fashion. Congratulations to Mike Turley and his entire team, who won the Centennial Cup, our two-day Ryder Cup-style event!

This year we had the season-culminating Club Championship Week. The first champion to be crowned was the 9 Hole Club Champion, Nolan Howard! Nolan was great, as were the other twenty-five junior golfers that competed in the event, which contained 3 holers as well as 5 holers. Congratulations to all of our Junior Golfers! The Women’s 9 hole Club Champion was crowned as well! Congratulations to Donna Webb for her victory! Shortly after the 9 hole winner was crowned, Mrs. Ganger was yet again victorious in the Championship flight, taking back her title as Club Champion. The winner in the first flight was Debbie Scott and in the second flight, Gracetta Gideon. The men were up next and in the Championship flight, Chris Gates took the trophy. He eagled hole 18 both Friday and Saturday and hit the pin for a kick in birdie on Sunday! In the First Flight, Mr. Gregg Pierce took home the prize and in the Second Flight, Mac Behnke was crowned the victor. To cap off the week, we had the Couples Championship. The front 9 was a scramble format and the back 9 was an alternate shot format. The net winners were Jim & Debbie Scott. The gross winners were Roger & Joni Ganger. We had more then double the participants as we had last year—what a great event! Thank you so much to all of the participants. What a fun event and we look forward to it again next year. The Championship week is sort of a culmination of the golf season here at the club but that does not mean golf is over! The fall offers plenty of great golf here at Gull Lake Country Club so we hope to see you out there!
