This has been another crazy unseasonably warm winter season with little snow and a roller coaster of different conditions. We trust this winter has been very kind to you and everyone is ready to get back out and enjoy your club again real soon. The grounds staff as been very busy all winter with many different equipment and furniture projects along with keeping up with all the winter activities here at the club. We were able to successfully complete our annual winter tree-trimming project on the golf course despite the continuous freeze/thaw events and our lack of frost in the ground this winter.
The turf battled through the winter quite well and we are very pleased with the turf health going into Spring. This is never a guarantee coming out of winter but especially this winter. The grounds team has been working very hard this spring trying to get the course into shape for the season, along with working on some special projects and repairing the course from winter tree removal/trimming. We are about to start our annual application for seed head control on Greens, Tees and Fairways. This is the same program we have been on for the past 6 years now and has worked well with us. Please remember that with this application you could see some discoloration; this is normal and usually lasts about 4 weeks. This is a necessary evil but but will help improve the putting surface throughout the spring along with better overall turfgrass health throughout the summer months to come.
The driving range is scheduled to open in the middle of April - weather permitting. The reason for the delay is to give the range a better chance of recovering from the damage caused by using it. Seed used to fill the damaged areas will not germinate until closer to the middle of the month. Without the change of recovery, we would damage the tee surface too quickly and be left wit ha compromised tee during the peak of the season. Thanks for your patience and understanding during this time.
The grounds team is here to make your club experience as special and enjoyable as possible. If there is anything we can do, please feel free to give me a call anytime. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting season here at the club and I hope to see you all very soon.
