The Battle Creek Model Yacht Club was founded in 2008 by Jerry and Rick Kohl in Battle Creek, Michigan. The model sailboat that is used is called “Soling 1M” (one meter) and is the largest of the various classes that make up the American Model Yachting Association (AMYA).

The Soling was chosen because of its low cost ($200 for a kit or $700 for an assembled boat, ready to sail!) and great sailing characteristics.

The BCMYC started sailing at Goguac Lake in Battle Creek and moved to the present venue at Gull Lake Country Club/Yacht Club in 2011.

Three racing series are held from May to Thanksgiving Day…the Spring Series…the Fleet Championship Series…and the Fall Series.  The annual Pumpkin Fest Regatta is held on Halloween Weekend.

Series are raced on Thursday nights (6-8pm) and Saturday mornings (11am-1pm).

Past Fleet Champions include Tick Ticknor, Rick Kohl, and Dan Pender.
